SOUTH WEST TOUGHER MUDDER

17 August 2019

£1325 raised by Sam's brother, Nick, and his team of stalwarts for Clic Sargent.
This was in memory of Sam and to mark the 10th anniversary of his passing.

On August 17th 2019, Nick challenged himself by competing in this year's South West Tougher Mudder alongside a few of his best mates, Sam Burden, Will Ingleby & Louis Coppard. Although the team were a band of experienced "mudders", having previously completed 3 Tough Mudder Classics they wanted to step up the challenge to the competitive version - "Tougher" Mudder. They were running in the first heat of the day against professional obstacle course racers - who knew there was such a thing.
Throughout his life Sam challenged himself to his absolute limits in so many ways. But, said Nick, prior to the event, "The Tougher Mudder could well be our limit with our terrible cardio abilities and scrawny legs, however we'll give it our best crack!"
On the day Nick completed the event alongside Louis, Sam and Ingles. Nick reflected "Although the ‘Tougher Mudder’ is a competitive race between athletes who run in the first wave of the weekend. Winning this was never a goal, nor a realistic one, but we wanted to challenge ourselves.

During the months leading up to the event we trained extremely hard to get as fit as possible. This was a challenge in itself. On the day, we had a bright and early start, leaving home at 4.30am to travel up to Badminton Estate where the event was being held. After checking in upon arrival, and psyching ourselves up in the warm up, we managed to complete the course, as a team, in just over 2 hours. We were battered, bruised, muddy and exhausted as we crossed the finish line but it was all worth it. The support we had from friends and family was fantastic and we managed to raise £1,325 for CLIC Sargent. I would like to say a huge thank you to anyone who donated and supported us along the way! - Nick"
