COMPLETE ACTIVE RINGWOOD
DOUBLE IRON MAN

Iron Man Challenge: About

DOUBLE IRON MAN

On 30th January 2021

Complete Active Ringwood are organising a Sponsored Event for Saturday the 30th of January 2021. They are we looking to complete a minimum of 2 iron mans between all the members and coaches at Complete Active. In doing so looking to raise some money for CLIC Sargent. "Cancer will and has affected many of us so we thought it’d be a great idea to raise more awareness and money at the same time as keeping ourselves fit and being outside in the fresh air.
Gordon Fearn personally coached Samuel Oldridge as he was battling cancer and continues to do a yearly charity day to raise further money for his foundation."

UPDATE 1ST FEB

Gordon Fearn Facebook Extract
1st February 2021

Gordon Fearn posted a social media update confirming how together with his Complete Active Ringwood friends, colleagues and family that they not only smashed their challenge but raised a substantial amount of money for CLIC Sargent.

On Saturday- members, friends and family took part in an attempt to complete a double iron man to raise money and awareness for the Samuel Oldridge appeal in support of Clic Sergent who provided so much support for Samuel and his family.

I run a charity event The Samuel Oldridge Cup ,each year in memory of Sam who was a student of mine and to raise money for CLIC. Both CA directors and the team organised the iron man event this weekend.

Over 60 people from the Complete Active community came together to hit the numbers needed, but, instead smashed them.

Swim goal - 5 miles .. we hit 6.5

Bike goal - 280 miles .. we hit 436

Run goal - 148 miles .. we hit 367.75

To those who tackled the sea with very cold and challenging surf, to everyone who was out pounding the tarmac and trails on foot, road or mountain bike to complete these miles. The conditions were less than ideal most putting the miles in pouring rain, we thank you so much.

Most importantly to everyone who has kindly donated, we thank you so much and we are sure the money raised will allow to make a positive impact. We didn’t put a figure on how much we’d like to raise, as any money would have been amazing.

We have currently raised over £1500 with donations still coming in. Its not too late to donate, here is the link;

It just proves what a powerful community CrossFit can create within a gym environment to make such a positive impact. Mark and Mark and the team at CA thank everyone so much for everything that has been done this weekend.

Samuel- always an inspiration and a beacon of positivity, even in these challenging times. You're Missed but never forgotten, I could see you laughing at me getting wrestled by the sea, chuckling at me getting rained on during the run and you kept me going when I hit the wall on the bike.

Thanks to Mark Newton, Mark Smallbones, Oliver Jack Jones, Rich Jarvis, Lionel Newton, Complete Active Members and all our friends and families who made a rainy cold Saturday during a lockdown...a really memorable one! CA is the best Gym for sure!

CLIC SARGENT
THANKYOU

Facebook Extract 8th February 2021

A massive thank you to Complete Active CrossFit in Ringwood and Gordon Fearn, Master Instructor for the Gordon Fearn Tae Kwon-Do and Ninja Skillz Dorset Schools (GFTK). They decided to take on a Double Ironman Challenge that raised over £2000 in memory of Samuel Oldridge. 60 people took part and smashed the double Iron Man challenge by swimming 6.5 miles, cycled 436 miles by bike and ran 367.75 miles in one day.

Gordon said: “Each year with my GFTKD School we support CLIC Sargent in memory of Samuel as the charity supported Samuel and his family.

Samuel Oldridge was born in 2000 and diagnosed aged 3 with a brain tumour which caused him to lose his vision. Even though Samuel was blind he never let it stop him doing anything and nor did he ever give up in whatever he tried to do. Samuel showed no fear, he inspired us all in the fact he achieved so much at such a young age and had the ability to make us all smile. Samuel showed the 5 tenants of Tae Kwon-Do - Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and indomitable Spirit. Very sadly he passed away in 2009, aged just 8 years old.”

Gordon continues: “Samuel is always an inspiration and a beacon of positivity, even in these challenging times, missed but never forgotten. I would like to thank everyone from the Complete Active CrossFit community for taking part in this challenge for young cancer patients in Samuel’s name. It was really touching that despite the weather we could come together as a community, in socially distancing circumstances and do something so positive.”

A massive thank you to absolutely ace Gordon Fearn and all who took part from Complete Active CrossFit in Ringwood. Thank you also to Samuel's family for so kindly setting up a fund in Samuel's memory to continue to support children and young people with cancer.
